The Bible tells that God has a clear purpose for the miracle He performed in each of us: “you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9).
As Great Commission Christians – which God calls us all to be – we need to engage in the Father’s ministry of reconciliation. I realize that the millions people that make up what Jesus called “fields white unto harvest” may tend to escape your focus because of the many details of everyday life. But they do not escape God’s focus!
Life has a way of settling us into our environments. It has a way of moving around us and getting us to play a role that becomes mostly reactionary. Time and again we find it difficult to be proactive and do what we purpose to do. We typically fall short of our New Year’s resolutions because the routine and the inertia of life around us seem too strong for us to make significant changes.
There are so many lost opportunities in life when we defeat ourselves before we start because the odds are so much greater than we are! As Christians we absolutely need to look at the task, not in comparison with our limited power, but in light of the power of our infinite God. We are expected to rely on His power – and to do all we can and watch God do what He can do!
