Spain

The Need

Morality and values in Spain are in decline, marked by decadent behavior, hedonistic lifestyles, and a heightened pursuit of material possessions. This trend leads to increased rates of depression, addiction, financial debt, and a pervasive sense of purposelessness. Spain faces significant challenges with drug abuse, ranking among the world’s top consumers of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana. Approximately two million individuals, primarily youth, regularly engage in “recreational” drug use. Moreover, gambling addiction poses a widespread issue, with an estimated 15% of net household income dedicated to betting, potentially one of the highest proportions globally.

Beyond these societal concerns, Spain grapples with spiritual confusion, marked by the rapid proliferation of false beliefs following a departure from faith. Occult practices and New Age deceptions are prevalent, with marginal cults like Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons gaining traction, contributing to spiritual ambiguity. The younger generation, particularly, demonstrates resistance to the concept of absolute truth, reflecting broader ideological uncertainty. Addressing these challenges necessitates a comprehensive approach that considers both societal and spiritual dimensions in Spain’s evolving landscape

What’s Happening

Since 1991, Spain has been the flagship model for World Link Ministries, resulting in the establishment of over a hundred churches. Our commitment to leadership development led to SEFOVAN, the WLM seminary in Madrid, growing into Spain’s largest seminary with 2,500 graduates and over 150 current students.

Our impact extends beyond the capital, with extension centers in strategic locations, including Ciudad Real, Santander, and the Canary Islands. A recent achievement is the establishment of an extension in San Sebastian, led by Unai Arretxe, a SEFOVAN-trained individual. God’s blessings empower students across Spain to fulfill their ministry aspirations.

In the Canary Islands, with 2.2 million inhabitants, only ten thousand are evangelical. Since 1995, our diligent efforts, including a 2001 initiative delivering Gospel literature to every home, have made significant strides. However, challenges persist, especially in smaller islands and scattered believer groups. Our commitment strengthens to bridge spiritual gaps and enhance evangelical presence across the Canary Islands.

Some of Our Student Pastors in Spain

Unai Arretxe

Unai is a church planter in San Sebastian, Spain. As he went through our four year program he would make the 4 hour drive home on weekends to lay the foundation for the church he was planting in northern Spain, Today his church is one of the largest in Spain and has become a major influence in the entire region.

Bruno Gonzalez

Bruno serves in the city of Benidorm, Spain. He and his wife Lidia and daughter Janna, moved there because of a call for help from a church there. Bruno came and turned the situation around and within a year launched an extension center in his church for our seminary in Madrid. Today his church’s influence is felt all throughout the province.

Danny & Carol

From the time they arrived at seminary in 2009 Danny and Carol became part of a leadership team that would plant a church in Madrid, Spain. All throughout their time in seminary they were also focused on evangelism, and the pastoring of the new church. After leaving the church in good hands, they moved to the States to finish their education at Southwestern Seminary. They soon returned to Spain to plant churches in the Canary Islands (their home province).

Matt & Rose Rabbit

Matt and Rose are two students from Ecuador who came to our Saturday classes. They have a ministry reaching other Quechua Indians in the country of Spain and throughout Europe. God has multiplied their ministry tremendously over the last five years.

Miguel Angel & Rebecca

This sweet couple has grown into tremendous leaders at our seminary in Madrid and in a church plant in Madrid they are now leading. Miquel Angel is one of the brightest students to have come through our seminary since it opened in 1991. He hosts a blog with country wide following in the hundreds of thousands.

Daniel Zamora

Daniel pastored a church all throughout his four years in the seminary. When he finished he continued to pastor the church which had grown and took up a position with an evangelistic ministry that is reaching out to a very needy part of Madrid.
